Bequeathed his entire, now priceless, art collection, containing works by Picasso, Matisse and Cezanne, to the Tate Gallery in 1933. Favouring artists who reinvented our understanding of art, pushed the boundaries and grew their world, he’s an example of creating a lasting legacy of entrepreneurial success.
His son, led Harlequins out for Twickenham’s first ever rugby fixture, in the stadium that would one day bear his name. Such was his focus, ingenious strategy and team spirit that he went on to captain for England. Remembered as ‘the man who led England out of the post-1895 wilderness’, his younger brother, F.M. ‘Tim’ Stoop also made the England team.
Now, as both father and founder, the next generation represents the future to build towards, preserve and provide a legacy for. People matter, family matters at Cornelius James. Who’s gone before, who’s given their all, who can be helped today, what can be established for tomorrow – this is what ambitions are built upon.
